On behalf of our client, a growing agri-food company, we are currently recruiting for an Environmental Microbiologist. Proposed Role: The Environmental Microbiologist is a key role in the support of a number of research projects. Reporting to the Microbiology Project Manager, the Environmental Microbiologist will be essential in driving forward the development of microbial solutions for the horticulture industry. Role Deliverables: The deliverables of the Environmental Microbiologist role are directly linked to the projects they support including: The development and use of classical microbiology methods to identify environmental microorganisms. The development and use of molecular methods to identify and quantify a variety of microorganisms within environmental samples. The use of microbial ecology techniques to assess effects of different environmental interventions on organic matrices. Development of technical reports for internal and state agency reporting purposes. All deliverables must be achieved according to planned timelines and budgets as much as possible. Competencies to perform the role: General skills and satisfactory competencies in administration, communication and research are needed to perform the role adequately. An Environmental Microbiologist is required to have excellent organisation skills and carry out their assigned tasks on time and according to the relevant standard. The Environmental Microbiologist may supervise the activities of junior researchers. In particular, the Environmental Microbiologist must: Manage molecular microbiology deliverables on a variety of R&D projects. Develop and manage research plans & risk assessments. Liaison with internal and external stakeholders in order to complete research projects. Conduct data (statistical) analysis of results. Develop interim and final reports. Presentation of results to internal and external audiences. Experience and Qualifications. Possess a Ph.D qualification in Molecular or Environmental Microbiology. Mandatory. 2 years of postdoctoral industrial experience is desirable. Proven record of good understanding/experience in the latest fungal and bacterial molecular microbiology techniques (DNA and RNA extraction, cDNA, cloning, qPCR, NGS analysis. Possess excellent computer skills including databases, MS Office suite and statistical packages (R, Python, Bioinformatic software. Possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), excellent interpersonal and presentation skills as well as being team focused. Proven record of attention to detail and work with a sense of urgency yet have the ability to be impartial and objective. The Environmental Microbiologist is expected to be motivated, collaborative, driven, goal orientated and systematic / well organised. The Environmental Microbiologist must be flexible in terms of working hours to ensure deliverables are achieved on time. It is required to that an Environmental Microbiologist holds a driving license to travel in order to achieve deliverables (i.e. sampling, delivery of samples, etc.).
